On July 1, elements of HB22-1295 came into effect, meaning that the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC) is now responsible for administering the current responsibilities of the Office of Early Childhood in the Department of Human Services. There is still a long road toward the implementation of universal preschool for the 2023-24 school year, but the launch of the new department marks an important transfer of designated power and resources within our state government. The new landing site for the department has also been launched: https://cdec.colorado.gov/

The CDEC delivers a broad range of programs and services to Colorado’s youngest children, their families, and the professionals who serve them. Established this month under the leadership of Executive Director Dr. Lisa Roy, CDEC unifies Colorado’s early childhood system and elevates it to cabinet-level importance, implementing the vision of a dedicated stakeholder community that contributed to the launch of the Department of Early Childhood. The Colorado Children’s Campaign is incredibly proud to have been a part of this process.

Visit the new website to find the early childhood resources and information you may need as a parent, provider, or advocate. The CDEC is also currently hiring for multiple positions – learn more here.
