Between 2014 and 2018, just 51 percent of Colorado’s 3- and 4-year-olds were enrolled in any type of preschool. High-quality preschool programs help ensure kids start kindergarten with the skills they need to hit the ground running, and the positive effects of preschool don’t expire during early childhood. Decades of research show that participation in a high-quality preschool program can alter the trajectory of a child’s life, with benefits experienced for decades to come.
