In the 2018-2019 school year, 79 percent of Colorado’s kindergartners were enrolled in a full-day program. Research demonstrates that compared to those in half-day programs, kindergartners in full-day programs make more academic progress and are better prepared for first grade. The share of Colorado kindergartners attending full-day programs has grown substantially in the last two decades, despite that fact that the state only currently funds a little more than a half-day for all students. Districts that wish to offer full-day kindergarten must either find local funding or charge parents tuition, making full-day programs inaccessible to many kids. To find full-day kindergarten enrollment in your county or school district, please visit the KIDS COUNT Data Center.
