Between 2016 and 2018, 50 percent of Colorado’s 3- and 4-year-olds (about 69,000 young children) were not enrolled in any type of school, including nursery, preschool, kindergarten or Head Start programs. High-quality preschool programs help ensure kids start kindergarten with the skills they need to hit the ground running, and the positive effects of preschool don’t expire during childhood—they can alter the trajectory of a child’s life with benefits experienced for decades to come.
