Fast Fact – February 19, 2021
Head Start and Early Head Start served more than 12,600 young children and pregnant women in Colorado in 2019, though there were likely many more who qualified for the programs but were not reached. Head Start programs promote physical, cognitive and social development and boost school readiness among young children living in poverty. However, the number of Colorado children who qualify for Head Start still far exceeds program capacity. The number of available slots is limited by funding, which is authorized by the U.S. Congress.
