In 2018, Colorado’s child abuse rate rose to 9.5 victims out of every 1,000 children under 18, the highest child maltreatment rate seen in the state in nearly two decades. Experiencing abuse and neglect can significantly impact a child physically, psychologically and behaviorally for their lifetime, with the potential for impacts on future generations through epigenetic changes. To review child abuse rates in specific Colorado counties, please visit the KIDS COUNT Data Center.
