Advocate Spotlight: Why affordable quality child care matters

guestI feel very passionate about affordable quality child care for all in the workforce. Quality child care grants families peace of mind. The ability to know that your child is in a safe, clean, and structured environment is extremely important. However, working families often face barriers in accessing quality early childhood facilities that provide both ongoing professional development for staff and school readiness for scholars.

Oftentimes single parents are put in a situation where they have to decide whether to stay home from work with their child and miss a day of work, or to send their child to a provider that has limited availability. It is unfortunate because parents and guardians should not have to choose between work and ensuring their child has access to quality child care. I think it’s important for businesses to think more deeply about how they can support their employees in accessing quality child care. When businesses invest in children and their families, it creates an opportunity for everyone to thrive.
