Summary

This bill would create an affordable health care plan in the state of Colorado by requiring all Colorado state health insurance carriers to implement a standardized plan that would:

  • allow consumers to easily compare health benefit plans;
  • provide predictable coverage for certain services;
  • include the essential health benefits package;

In order to ensure the required option is affordable this bill would require carriers to utilize a hospital reimbursement rate formula and require hospital participation.

Position

We support this bill because it will reduce the cost of health insurance coverage for families across the state and help more kids access health insurance. Kids with health insurance have better access to the physical, mental and oral health care they need to be healthy and are also less likely to drop out of high school, more likely to graduate from college, and have higher incomes as adults
