Summary

The bill would require the State Board of Education to adopt standards related to Holocaust and genocide studies. The bill would also require the Colorado Department of Education to create a publicly available resource bank that includes sample academic content, instruction programs, learning resource, professional developments, and case studies related to Holocaust and genocide studies.

Position

The Children’s Campaign supports the bill. It would require the State Board of Education to adopt standards by 2021 and would also create a graduation requirement component beginning in 2024. We believe students should receive an education that is inclusive of all people, that is comprehensive and that ensures that historical moments and movements such as the Holocaust and other genocides are taught in an appropriate way.

Current Status

Passed the Senate unanimously and now heads to the governor’s desk for signature.

Previous Status

March 13, 2020

Passed out of the House Education Committee unanimously on Mar. 12. It now heads to appropriations.
