Community Leaders to Examine Issues Facing Kids in Logan County

May 14 discussion to explore child health and education issues

PRESS ADVISORY

May 3rd, 2013

Community leaders will examine health and education issues facing local children in a community discussion May 14 in Sterling. To start the conversation, the Colorado Children’s Campaign, Colorado’s leading voice for kids will present statewide and county-specific data on child well-being from its 2013 KIDS COUNT in Colorado! report.

The Colorado Children’s Campaign’s recent report, Community Matters, shows Colorado still has one of the fastest growing rates of child poverty in the nation since 2000. Despite the increase in poverty, some signs of child well-being have improved during the same time, likely as a result of targeted efforts to increase access to child health coverage and high quality education. This year, Logan County was ranked 19 out of the state’s 25 largest counties in overall child well-being. The annual KIDS COUNT in Colorado! report provides state- and county-level data on a variety of child well-being indicators.

The free event is co-sponsored by the Colorado Children’s Campaign and the Early Childhood Council of Logan, Phillips, and Sedgwick.
