KIDS COUNT in Colorado! measures child well-being statewide; Release event features child-decorated dolls given to legislators.

Denver, CO – The Colorado Children’s Campaign will release its 2013 KIDS COUNT in Colorado! report at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 18 in a news conference at the State Capitol. Gov. John Hickenlooper will join Children’s Campaign President and CEO Chris Watney at the annual release of the state’s most comprehensive report on child well-being.

In conjunction with the KIDS COUNT release, the Children’s Campaign and child advocates from across the state will celebrate 2013 Doll Day on the morning of March 18 by distributing to each state legislator two-foot-tall cardboard dolls decorated by and representing Colorado kids.

KIDS COUNT in Colorado! is an annual publication of the Children’s Campaign, providing state- and county-level data on child well-being factors including child health, education and economic status. Since its first release 20 years ago, KIDS COUNT in Colorado! has become the most trusted source for data and information on Colorado children and is relied upon by lawmakers, community leaders and child advocates to inform policy decisions and community discussions on issues impacting kids.

WHERE: Colorado State Capitol, West Foyer

WHEN: 2 p.m. Monday, March 18

As part of Doll Day, cardboard dolls decorated by children, concerned citizens and advocates across the state will be presented to legislators to represent the interests of children statewide as they make policy decisions during the legislative session that will impact their lives. The dolls will be on legislators’ chairs and ready to be photographed by 7:30 a.m. March 18.

Following the news conference, Children’s Campaign staff will be available for media interviews, including in Spanish, and a pdf of the complete 2013 KIDS COUNT in Colorado! report, as well as a Spanish-language executive summary, will be available at coloradokids.org.
