The Colorado educator loan forgiveness program closes applications Jan. 15
If you are a Colorado educator, there is still time to apply for the 2022-23 cycle of the Colorado Department of Higher Education’s (CHDE) Educator Loan Forgiveness program. CDHE accepts applications through Jan. 15. Qualified educators include those currently within the Colorado public school system, working in approved rural schools or districts or teaching a content-shortage area in a non-rural school. Only applicants with federal student loans in their name qualify.
In 2019, the Colorado General Assembly passed SB19-003 to address Colorado’s educator shortages and provide loan forgiveness primarily to those serving in rural and hard-to-fill positions. The program is funded for five years, and Fiscal Year 2021-22 was the first year in which loan forgiveness was distributed through the program. Educators who continue to quality may apply for up to $5,000 every year that they remain eligible.
