HB17-1022 (Salazar) Teaching Competent History in Public Schools

Summary: The bill requires that the history, culture and contribution of American Indians, Hispanic Americans, African Americans, and Asian Americans be included in a high school History course as a graduation requirement.

Position: The Children’s Campaign affirms it is important to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of history and culture and to highlight contributions from diverse groups.

Current Status: Passed the House Education Committee on a party line 7-6 vote and now heads to the House Appropriations Committee.
