It's About Kids

It's About Kids is a statewide initiative that stimulates dialogue on children's issues through a diverse child advocacy network across Colorado. It's About Kids brings local communities together to develop a legislative agenda for kids and increase the voice of those communities in the legislative process.

The It's About Kids communities work together to:

  • Agree to and support the mission of the Colorado Children's Campaign

  • Appoint a Community Contact

  • Form a local It's About Kids Steering Committee

  • Develop a local email network to disseminate KidsFlash action alerts, resources and information

  • Promote and engage the media in kids' issues

  • Participate in monthly conference calls

  • Participate in statewide advocacy efforts by advocating in CCC issue areas

  • Support statewide advocacy projects of the CCC (Doll Project, Kids Day at the Capitol)

  • Attend the annual It's About Kids statewide retreat

  • Develop and/or strengthen relationships with state legislators and local elected officials such as county commissioners and city council members

The Colorado Children's Campaign encourages discourse and cooperation in communities by providing:

  • Weekly KidsFlash action alerts to keep the communities involved and informed during the State Legislative session

  • Workshops on advocacy, data, media and legislative budgets

  • Opportunities for local input in developing the CCC's annual legislative agenda including an annual It's About Kids statewide retreat

  • Technical support, including access to local-level child well-being data and support in the planning of any activity associated with It's About Kids

  • Facilitation of candidate and elected official forums
